Grape Stomp/"Busty Blush"

Help Stomp Out Breast Cancer

We invite all Friends of Claar and their families and friends to stomp grapes with us on Saturday, October 2nd, and celebrate the release of our new Rose' of Sangiovese "Busty Blush."

Claar Cellars will donate the $5 grape stomping fee to Wellness House to help defray daily living expenses for women undergoing breast cancer treatment in the Yakima area. We need teams of two for the stomp--one person gets down and dirty on the grapes while the other captures the resultant nectar (OK, juice) in a wine bottle. You may stomp for fun at any time during the day. For those with a deep competitive urge, we will stage a Stomp-Off at 5:00 PM with the fastest team receiving a certificate as Claar Cellars' Champion Grape Stompers and two bottles of Busty Blush.

Claar Cellars will also donate five dollars from the sale of each bottle of Busty Blush to the renowned Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle to assist in the fight against breast cancer. Artist Dixie Rogerson-Bill, who graciously donated the artwork "Purple Feat" for the Busty Blush label, will be on hand to sign bottles and prints of her original work. (Reply to this message and I will email you a jpg file of the Busty Blush label.) Volunteers from Wellness House, the American Cancer Society, the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, and local survivor groups will be here to answer questions and provide informational materials. In addition, most of the wineries in the Zillah area will join us that day by wearing pink ribbons and making a donation to breast cancer research.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to support the fight against breast cancer and enjoy yourself at the same time. The fun is from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at our Tasting Room in Zillah. Call Mike at 509-829-6810 for additional information, to volunteer your time, or to make a donation to this worthy cause.

2000 Corneauxcopia

Winemaker Bruno Corneaux was on hand at the Tasting Room on Saturday, September 4th, to sign and pen personal messages to customers on bottles of his 2000 Corneauxcopia. Bruno's Special Select Blend features the most flavorful grapes of our White Bluffs Vineyard aged 30 months in the best French oak barrels. A deep, brooding, and full-bodied red, Corneauxcopia delivers scents of cedar and pitted prunes with peppery blackberries and spicy black olives on the palate. Big, refined tannins promise future growth and refinement in the bottle. We limited production to 340 cases. Corneauxcopia has already taken a Gold Medal at the Tasters Guild competition in Chicago and a Silver Medal at one of the largest wine shows in the country, the Los Angeles County Fair Wines of the World.

Corneauxcopia is available at our Tasting Room in Zillah or through phone and Internet orders. For a limited time, it is also available at Paolo's Italian Restaurant in Kent, WA (call Paul or Kristen at 253-850-2233 for reservations).

Thanksgiving in Wine Country

We jump-start the holiday season in the Yakima Valley with Thanksgiving in Wine Country. During this three-day event, local wineries team with restaurants or caterers to provide a wine and food pairing that will add flair and élan to your holiday table. Samples will be available in our Tasting Rooms, as well as individual recipes and a CD that holds the wine and food pairings from all of the participating wineries. While we have not yet selected our pairing (so many from which to choose!), Claar Cellars will be working with the Clarion Hotel and Executive Chef Greg Keeton.

Thanksgiving in Wine Country is always a wonderful event for family and friends. Remember--valley wineries do not provide tasting glasses during special events. Commemorative winery association glasses and Claar Cellars logo glasses will be available for purchase starting at five dollars or you may bring your favorite tasting glass from home. Our hours are 10-6 daily, Friday-Sunday, 26-28 November.

Whitewater and Wine

Love the outdoors? We have teamed with Osprey Rafting Company of Leavenworth to provide FOCs a nice little opportunity for white-water rafting and a BBQ. Debbie and I took this two-hour trip down the Tieton River last week. Simply too much fun! The river is high and fast because of water release from an upriver dam and is probably the only rafting-worthy river in the state this time of year. Call Gary (800-743-6269), mention Claar, and receive 10% off the standard $70 per person charge. Trust us=85this is great fun and well worth the money. The season ends in a couple of weeks, so act quickly. After rafting, come visit Claar Cellars and our friends in the Rattlesnake Hills (www.rattlesnakehills.com)

Wine Club

Don't forget the Claar Cellars Wine Club. We offer four wine shipments per year sent directly to your home or office at a 15% Tasting Room discount, personal invitations to special winery events, and a winemaker dinner with Bruno. Regular shipments will cost an average of $30.00 plus shipping and handling. Shipments will be sent in February, May, September and November. The package for this month is our 2003 Sauvignon Blanc, 2000 Sangiovese (a Super Tuscan), and 1999 Merlot for $32.27 plus shipping and tax where applicable. Visit our website to join the club.

Endangered Species

Yikes! These wines are about to go the way of the carrier pigeon, never to be seen again:

2002 Johannisberg Riesling -- 42 cases remaining

1999 Sangiovese -- 56 cases remaining

.

Help Finding Our Wines

Claar Cellars is opening more and more markets around the country and direct shipping laws are changing constantly. We are now distributed in 21 states and, if we cannot ship directly to you, we may be able to find a retailer in your area. Call Mike at our Tasting Room (509-829-6810) for assistance in obtaining our wines outside the State of Washington.

Happy Autumn Solstice!
