[rcvd 01-May-2000] Glen Fiona Spring 200 Wine Release May 6th - 7th & 13th - 14th A Tale of Three Syrahs Glen Fiona again announces the simultaneous release of three new Syrahs from our cellar. The first is a patio hedonist's dream that enhances any summertime barbecue, one is undeniably masculine and fully responsive to long term cellaring, while the final one is extremely rarified and Rhone-like in complexion. Please join us on this once-yearly occasion to witness the flight of a most stylistically diverse trio of Washington Syrahs! 1999 Columbia Valley "Bacchus Vineyard" Always a wonderfully fragrant and generously fruitful wine, the food-friendly Bacchus Vineyard Syrah from 1999 is the best yet made from that legendary Sagemoor Farms' block, overlooking the Columbia River and the Hanford nuclear plant beyond. This unwooded wine exhibits nothing better than the spicy cherry, blackberry and raspberry compote it has come to be known for, without any wood seasoning to mask the virtues of pure Syrah. One hundred percent Bacchus Vineyard, one hundred percent Syrah, one hundred percent ah! $20/bottle; $240/case 1998 Walla Walla Valley The new Walla Walla Valley Syrah is raising eyebrows already, having made its debut to jubilant Syrah enthusiasts in Victoria, BC at the Victoria Symphony Wine Festival and recently at Taste Washington in Seattle. A first for Washington Syrah, this wine owes its aromatic profile to the inclusion of 5% Viognier into the blend. Actually co-fermented with the much larger Syrah component, the white Viognier has for many centuries been the exclusive cepage ameliateur of Cote-Rotie, situated at the northern extreme of the Rhone Valley. Viognier is included henceforth in the Walla Walla Valley cuvee for the elegance and aroma that it lends to the blend, and to abide by that traditional, centuries-old style of Syrah. $35/bottle, $420/case 1997 Walla Walla Valley "Basket Press Reserve" Again Glen Fiona offers its flagship co-fermented blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Cinsault. Dispensing with all the comforts of modern winemaking, and made entirely in a natural, old-world style, the Basket Press Reserve is our finest offering. No yeast, other than that which occurs as native flora in the vineyard and winery was used to make this basket-pressed wine, the most Rhone-styled of any Washington Syrah. Further to this, the wine was aged sur lie for 24 months in American and Oregon oak, employing batonage throughout. Only four barrels of the Reserve were made and indeed it is the rarest and most exotic amongst the Glen Fiona stable of Syrahs. Hand-bottled, -corked, -labelled, and hand-sealed with beeswax, then nestled in a hand-sanded and branded fir box, the Basket Press Reserve will be the foremost addition to the Rhone-style section of your cellar. Extremely rare, will sell out fast. $55/bottle; limit 3.
