[rcvd 23-Apr-1999] ---------------------- Glen Fiona Walla Walla Valley Spring 1999 Wine Release May 1st-2nd & 8th-9th Three Syrahs Glen Fiona announces the first-ever simultaneous release of three new Syrahs from our cellar. The Spring Open House weekends mark the debut of a trio of distinctive wines that represent the great stylistic versatility that is found in Glen Fiona Syrah. Never before have we presented such an array of styles as we do at this spring's release. Demonstrating our committment to being the standard-bearer amongst Rhone-style producers in the Pacific Northwest, Glen Fiona brings you three new Syrahs! 1998 Columbia Valley 'Bacchus Vineyard' A stunning example of purely varietal Syrah, the unwooded yet enormously structured Bacchus Vineyard Syrah is filled with complex fruit and earthy aroma. Ripe plum, mango, kiwi, and passion fruit are layered atop dried date, fig and eucalyptus characters. These pronounced fruit components make the wine deceivingly sweet, and yet the white pepper and anise finish is decidedly dry. This wine was made entirely of Syrah from the famed Sagemoor Farms' Bacchus block. Being 100 percent Syrah (a la Cornas, the most masculine of wines), this wine stands up to the heartiest of foods and pairs exceedingly well with peppercorn steak, and lamb and vegetable kebobs. It is perfectly suited for your summertime barbecue. $20/bottle; $240/case. 1997 Walla Walla Valley The Walla Walla Valley Syrah has been raved about since it was previewed in December. The Rhone-style section of your cellar is simply not complete without this highly praised wine. Calling it "powerful, with great restraint and balance", Northwest Palate magazine awarded the wine '3 grape clusters' or an 'excellent' rating, setting it apart from every other Pacific Northwest Syrah. Taste and see why this is so. $35/bottle; $420/case. 1996 Walla Walla Valley 'Basket Press Reserve' The rarest and by far the most unique wine in Glen Fiona's stable of Syrahs, the Basket Press Reserve Single Barrel Cuvee is our sole offering from the harrowing vintage of 1996. Owing to the killing freeze of the winter of 1995-1996 and the ensuing grape shortage, the winery purchased only 1000 pounds of grapes that autumn. A half-ton total of Syrah and Cinsault filled the basket press only once, and only one barrel was made under what was to become our 'Basket Press Reserve' marque. Please talk to the winemaker if you are serious about owning one of only 275 bottles. $55/bottle; waxed, signed and boxed.
