If you no longer wish to receive these missives, Please click here: mailto:unsubscribe@hinzerling.com and send to us- you will be removed posthaste Bottle Your Own and Opening of the Barbecue Season- if you've ever dreamed about living the glamorous life of a cellar rat, if just for one day, Saturday, March 30th could be your chance to live out that dream. What happens that day? Get thee to the winery by 9 a.m. or so for a cup of Java and a nosh. Promptly at 10 a.m., we'll crank up our hand operated bottling line with you as one of the integral parts of the machinery- we'll probably be bottling Three Muses Ruby Port. Around noon, we'll break for a hearty Vintner's Lunch. After lunch, we'll chain you backup to the bottling line or, if you're deemed dexterous, you might get to do some labeling, capsuling, and casing. When done bottling, we'll break down the line, clean up and around 5:30 have a potluck BBQ under the arbor - we'll supply the burgers and you can bring a salad or dessert. If this sounds like fun to you, then Mark Twain was right and you'll need to fill out the reservation form at the bottom of this newsletter or call us at 1-800-727-6702 with the requisite info. I guarantee you will never look at a bottle of wine quite the same way again. I could dislocate my shoulder patting myself on the back, but I am pleased that our Rainy Day Fine Tawny Port placed as the #1 dessert wine in the prestigious Ray's Boathouse 15th Annual Northwest Wine Retrospective Tasting. Apparently, Rainy Day bellied up to the bar with some pretty heavy hitters, and brooked no quarter. While there's only a small amount of this lot left, some folks that had an allocation of this haven't picked it up so, if you are interested in a bottle of this delicious and complex wine, call me at 1-800-727-6702 or e-mail me at mailto:rainyday@hinzerling.com. SPRING WILL SPROING - and our annual Spring Barrel Tasting is right around the corner. Did you know that we, little ol' Hinzerling Winery, did the first Spring Barrel Tasting ever? That's right, back in 1978, I was trying to figure out how to bring winelovers- there weren't many in them days- out of their caves after a long, cold winter and thought if I did something a little different they might just bite. It worked, and to coin a phase, the rest is history, and the Yakima Valley Winery Association's 23rd annual event will be Friday through Sunday, April 26-28. We'll be pairing up with Chukar Cherries and will probably be sampling some interesting new varietal ports from the barrel as well as a few specials. Also, things are still in the works at press time, but it's quite probable that we will be hosting the Washington Asparagus Festival here at the winery including a special Asparagus Dinner at the Vintner's Inn. If the crowds of Spring Barrel Tasting ain't your bag, then you might want to come to Pre-Barrel Tasting on Saturday, April 20. We'll do much the same thing as we do at barrel tasting, but you'll get a little more personal attention, and on that night, we'll have a special Winemaker's Library Dinner at the Vintner's Inn, a reservation only dinner and tasting designed around some old wines I'll pull from our library of wines from the 70's though 90's. If you like rich old table and dessert wines - I'm thinking of an '82 Cabernet, '79 Select Cluster Gewurz and maybe a Riesling trockenbeerenauslese from 1980 - you'll love this tasting and dinner; so please send us the form at the bottom of this page or call me at 1-800-727-6702 with the requisite information.
