Production: (1996) 28,000 cases/year Vineyards: 105 estate; purchase Cab, Merlot from Wahluke slope and Gordon Brothers. History: The Hyatt's 105 acre vineyard, above the small town of Zillah in the Yakima Valley of Washington State, was first planted in 1983. This event started Leland and Lynda Hyatt down the Washington wine road. Having grown Concord grapes for juice and jelly, the Hyatt family had no idea how much more personal a winegrape vineyard could be. Their hopes and joys accelerated in 1987 with the crushing of the first vintage of the new winery. The first year only 800 cases were produced; they intended to expand to the 20,000 case level by the year 2000, but are already at 22,000 in 1995! Barrel fermented Chardonnay, oak aged Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon reserve wines round out their wine making efforts.
