MikeL's Guide to WA Wineries
Content References

My content references for all the text in MikeL's WA Winery Guide are from personal experience, info from the winery themselves, or in some part from the following:

[TW-Purser]
The Winemakers
; Purser & Allen (1977)

An excellent historical document with "coffee-table" format photos. Includes info on the earliest wineries.

[TRS-Stockley]
Winery Tours
; Tom Stockley (1978)
ISBN: 0-916076-22-9

Of limited use but a good brief snapshot of the industry circa 1978.

[WTl-Stockley]
Winery Trails
; Tom Stockley (1977)
ISBN: 0-919574-13-0

Of limited use but a good brief snapshot of the industry circa 1977.

[NwWG-Hill]
The Northwest Winery Guide
; email Chuck Hill ISBN: 0-9617699-2-0

Was once a very good travel reference, now useful as a snapshot of 1989. See the newer editions (below).

[NwWW-Hill]
Northwest Wines & Wineries
(1995); email Chuck Hill ISBN: 0-9617699-5-5

Although superceded by his 1998 edition, this is still an excellent travel reference!

[GGNwWW-Hill]
Gourmet's Guide to Northwest Wines & Wineries
(1998); http://northwest-gourmet.com
ISBN: 0-9617699-8-X

An excellent travel reference, with info on hotels, radio stations, you name it! Organized by region which is great when you're on the road, or planning a trip.

[WWAN-Meredith]
The Wines and Wineries of America's Northwest
; Ted Jordan Meredith. (1986)

A very good reference in it's time, with a lot of attention given to the winemakers. I believe there was an updated version circa 1993.

[Nw-Meredith]
Northwest Wine
; Ted Jordan Meredith. (1980)

ISBN:0-936666-00-5

[AWN-Clark]
American Wines of the Northwest
; Corbet Clark (1989)
ISBN: 0-688-11276-5

A good reference in it's time, with a lot of attention given to the wines themselves, including ratings (arbitrary by the author). Most of the wines are no longer available, so the ratings are no longer useful.

Yakima Valley Wine Tour; Yakima Valley Wine Growers Assoc. (1994)

[WSW-WSDA]
Washington State Wine, The New American Classics
pamphlet, Washington State Dept. of Agriculture (1986)

Useful only as a snapshot of 1986 in a nutshell -- 38 operating wineries!

[WSW-WSDA-87]
Washington State Wine, The Art Of The State
pamphlet, Washington State Dept. of Agriculture (1987)

Useful only as a snapshot of 1987 in a nutshell -- 48 operating wineries!

[TWWC-WWC]
Touring the Washington Wine Country
pamphlet, Washington Wine Commission (1995)

Available at all wineries, and most wine shops, even grocery stores, and it's free (your wine tax dollars at work). It lists all wineries in the state, but not by region and the maps are rather crude.

[TWCoW]
Touring the Wine Country of Washington
Ron and Glenda Holden (1983)

An excellent travel reference in it's time.

[Steve Foisey]
(unpublished)
Steve Foisey (1997)

Steve is a member of the Boeing employees winemakers club, and is currently researching failed WA wineries. 425-222-7036.

[TWP]
The Wine Project
Dr. Walter Clore & Ron Irvine (1997)
ISBN: 0-9650834-9-7

Dr. Clore is possibly the most greatest single influence on the WA state wine industry. He and Ron Irvine have put together an extensive book detailing the early history of WA wineries.

[PEoAWNW]
Pocket Encyclopedia of American Wines -- Northwest
William I. Kaufman (1992)
ISBN: 0-932664-58-X

[Tomassi]
The Wine Cabinet
Nick Tomassi is a wine writer for the Bremerton Sun.
His website contains several years of his articles.
