Ellis Lempriere -- In the Isolette
Beth wouldn't put the picture of the Isolette in yesterday, so I'm
putting it in in my section today! (I believe in truth in
advertising.) It's a little scary to walk into the nursery and see
the little guy in that huge plastic box, but we're used to it now.
There's all sorts of cool devices, including monitoring of pulse,
respiration and blood oxygen levels, and special mechanicals that feed
an antibiotic into the Glucose IV. The box itself has heat sensors
(including one attached to the baby) and can moderate it's levels
appropriately. The lamps almost look like stage lighting
fittings.
You can just see his right leg through the right porthole. The staff
can work quite nicely by sticking their arms through these little
doors; imagine changing a diaper that way... The nurses can do it in
seconds!
